International Yoga Day 2017: The Prime Minister Narendra Modi did yoga exercises despite rains for at least 15 minutes in Lucknow on Wednesday Today as he underlined the importance of yoga in connecting the global community and creating jobs. Leading the celebrations of the third edition of the International Yoga Day here at a rain-drenched Ramabhai Ambedkar Sabha Circle, Narendra Modi said yoga was a path to attain wellness and was akin to a free life insurance.

"Many countries which do not know our language, tradition, or culture, are now connecting to India through Yoga. The practice, which connects body, mind, and soul, has played a big role in binding the world too," he said.

Donning a white t-shirt and loose trousers, PM Narendra Modi also performed asanas along with over 51,000 yoga enthusiasts braving early morning drizzles."Earlier, Yoga was only restricted to saints and seers in the Himalayan mountains. Now, it has become part of every person's life," he said in his address.

He also explained the importance of Yoga using an analogy of salt. "Just as the importance of salt is not only to lend taste to food, but also ensure the well-being of the body, similarly Yoga can have the same importance as salty has in life," he said.

The PM Narendra Modi said yoga is about health assurance. "It is not even expensive to practice. I urge everyone to make yoga a part of their lives," said PM Modi, adding that he was glad to see several yoga institutes take shape over the last three years.

International Yoga Day 2017 Highlights:

  • The event was organized at the 8 major places of capital including Connaught place, Lodhi Garden, Talkatora Garden, Nehru Park etc…
  • The Ayush Ministry released the budget of 25-30 cr for the 3rd international yoga day celebration.
  • 635 districts of India were covered under this budget.
  • 00 a.m. to 7.45 a.m. was the correct time for the initialization of Yoga.
  • 100 yoga parks were planned across the country for the celebration.
  • There were more than 44 million people who took an oath to make Yoga as a part of their life.
Intermittent rains since morning failed to deter thousands of yoga enthusiasts, who enjoyed performing asanas fully drenched.Three years ago, Narendra Modi had persuaded the United Nations to declare June 21 as the International Yoga Day. Since then, thousands of people hold yoga programs across the world on this day.
